Stabilize Your Dental Bridge with Implants

A dental bridge is a common solution for patients who are missing one or multiple consecutive teeth. Dr. Judith Mamah recommends an implant-supported bridge whenever possible because it provides patients with important benefits that traditional bridges do not. For example, unlike a traditional bridge, an implant-supported bridge can prevent the jaw atrophy that occurs after tooth loss. At Designing Smiles, Dr. Mamah can perform every stage of this treatment at her Hackensack, NJ, office.

implant bridge vs traditional bridge
While traditional bridges attach to adjacent teeth, implant bridges are anchored directly to the jaw.

Traditional vs. Implant-Supported Bridges

A traditional bridge comprises one or more pontics, or false teeth, which are attached to dental crowns on either side. These crowns are placed over surrounding teeth to secure the restoration. With an implant-supported bridge, the pontics are attached to dental implants, which are surgically placed in the jawbone to hold the restoration in place. The result is a solution that replaces lost teeth from the root to the chewing surface.

What Are the Benefits?

Patients who receive an implant-supported bridge experience many benefits, including:

Preservation of Healthy Dental Tissue
Because a traditional bridge requires placing crowns, healthy adjacent teeth must be reduced in order to accommodate the restoration. An implant bridge requires no alteration of healthy teeth.
Prevention of Jawbone Recession
The implant posts will stimulate the jawbone, preventing jawbone recession.
Natural-Looking Aesthetics
An implant-supported bridge can discreetly close the gap in your smile. Your custom bridge will be color-matched to surrounding teeth to blend seamlessly.

During your consultation, Dr. Mamah can also answer any questions about your restoration to ensure you can make an informed treatment decision.

Is an Implant-Supported Bridge Right for You?

While an implant-supported bridge can provide many benefits, not every patient is an ideal candidate. In order to receive dental implants, you must have sufficient jawbone tissue to support the posts. However, if you have suffered jawbone recession due to tooth loss, Dr. Mamah can perform a bone grafting procedure to replace lost tissue.

Before receiving your implant-supported bridge, you must also be in good oral health. Dr. Mamah will evaluate your smile prior to treatment and recommend any necessary preliminary procedures to improve your candidacy.

Dr. Judith Mamah recommends an implant-supported bridge whenever possible because it provides patients with important benefits that traditional bridges do not.

Is It Affordable?

An implant-supported bridge will cost more up-front than its traditional counterpart. However, it is an investment in your oral health that can help you avoid the need for costly procedures such as bone grafting. To help make the additional costs associated with dental implants a good fit for your budget, we accept financing through CareCredit® and Wells Fargo.
