Invisalign Timeline

Patients who go through Invisalign treatment at our dental practice usually achieve their final results in 12 to 18 months. How long your treatment will take will depend on the severity of your dental misalignment. A typical Invisalign experience proceeds according to the following timeline:

Consultation

If you are interested in orthodontics, schedule a free consultation with Designing Smiles in Hackensack, NJ. During your consultation, Dr. Mamah will examine your bite to determine your candidacy for Invisalign. If you qualify, she can discuss details like cost and how long your orthodontic treatment will take.

Scans

If you and Dr. Mamah agree to proceed with Invisalign, we will use our advanced 3-D cone beam scanner to create a digital model of your bite. Dr. Mamah will use this model to design your treatment plan.

Fabrication

Dr. Mamah will send her design for your series of clear aligners to an Invisalign lab. The lab will 3-D print your aligners so that they will fit perfectly over your teeth at every stage of treatment. This fabrication process usually takes a few weeks, and then the aligners can be mailed directly to you or to our office in Hackensack, NJ.

Wearing Your Aligners

Now you will begin to wear your aligners. For the best results, it is very important that you wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. You should only remove the aligners to eat, drink anything besides water, brush, or floss. You will switch from one set of clear aligners to the next about every two weeks.

Check-Ups

During your treatment, you will periodically return to our office in Hackensack, NJ, so we can monitor your progress.

Final Results

If you follow all orthodontic guidelines and commit to wearing your aligners for the proper amount of time, you should experience a completely straightened smile in 18 months or less. However, we will recommend you wear a retainer at night after treatment to keep your teeth in position.
